THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN LIVING ALONE

College years are said to be the best years of one’s lives. Starting college means moving out of the comfort of your home. Moving out implies coping with a new environment, new friends and a whole new set of responsibilities that come along when you start to stay alone. All of this can seem a bit daunting at first. So if you are moving into York University Housing by Quad, here are a few tips to follow that would make living alone easier and fun.

  1. Embrace your new found freedom:

When moving to university, the one thing that you are looking forward to is freedom. Having your own apartment means you can stay up till as late as you want, put off cleaning or blast music, well basically do things as you please. Though having a sense of freedom can be exciting but it comes with a set of responsibilities which can be a little stressful.

If you are not too proactive carrying out your responsibilities seems like quite the task and can sometimes even seem a bit overwhelming. Policing your behaviour goes a long way. In order to do that you could make a time table and make sure that you follow it to the T. Get to bed on a reasonable time, schedule in your laundry and grocery shopping at regular intervals. If you get into the habit of doing your dishes, after some time you will reach a point where having an empty sink would excite you. It takes only 21 days to make a habit. So make a plan and stick to it.

  1. Make it your own:

As a kid, games which involved building your home used to be exciting. So living alone can take this to a whole new level. Make your house your own by decorating it the way you like. The way you choose to decorate the house is a way of expressing yourself. You could hang vintage posters or if you are a fan of Game of Thrones, you can dedicate a whole wall to showcase your GOT collectables. Decorate your house the way you would like it. To cope with homesickness you can always hang pictures of your friends and family.

Trying to decorate your new home can get a little overwhelming. If this happens to you, then you should consider stepping away from the decorating part for a bit and then maybe make a plan as to how you would go like to go about it or maybe Pinterest a few ideas.

  1. Go Exploring:

Moving out on your own can open many doors for you which were closed until now. In the world of technology, everything is fingertips away. You could download one of the apps which tells you about all that’s happening in the city. Walking around and exploring the hotspots. Living alone can be overwhelming and fun at the same time.
